Works to Restore the George III Royal Crest

Works to restore the George III Royal Crest at the Royal Artillery Barracks at Woolwich were completed, with the final piece of gold being applied by Major General Osbourne, General Officer Commanding the Army, London District, under the supervision of a Campbell Smith & Co expert.

The restoration work involved securing approval from The Queen’s Scribe for the design and colours to be used. The gilt work to the lion and the unicorn involved using two layers of 23.5 carat gold leaf, and was the final application in a 2 month scheme to research and undertake the restoration on behalf of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation.
