St Martin-in-the-Fields
Charing Cross, London
The church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields stands on Trafalgar Square, and was opened in 1724. It is a vibrant centre of activity in the heart of London, including a restaurant, live orchestral and jazz venue, conference and educational venue, all in addition to its worship and pastoral roles.
St. Martin’s embarked on a £36 million building project to restore and transform the church and surrounding buildings by creating a new sequence of beautiful, practical and inspirational spaces.
Campbell Smith and Co specialist operatives carried out extensive works to the knave, apse, crypt and other internal areas, included cleaning, painting & decorating, restoration of numerous crests, capitols, and other plaster details, including extensive gilding.
